Phil “Nitro” Monahan Steps Down as CIW Chief Operating Officer
(Oregon, OH) – Championship International Wrestling has announced that Phil “Nitro” Monahan has officially stepped down from his role as Chief Operating Officer, effective immediately.
Citing the recent violent attacks on his sons, Kaiden and Landen Monahan, Phil Monahan stated that the situation has become “too personal” to continue leading CIW in a fair and professional manner. Kaiden’s injuries are severe enough that his future in CIW is uncertain, and the rivalry with Ashton Adonis and Erik Surge has escalated beyond the realm of competition.
“While I am stepping away from my duties as COO, I will remain with CIW in an advisory role to help guide the company forward,” Monahan said. “My heart remains with CIW, its locker room, and our fans. My fight for my family—and for justice—will continue, just in a different way.”
The Board of Directors from Titan Sports and Entertainment, CIW’s parent company, has formally accepted Monahan’s resignation. On Sunday, September 14th at CIW’s “We Ain’t Done Yet” event at the Skyway Rec Center in Oregon, OH, the Board will name a new Interim President who will work closely with CIW EVP Chris Carter in overseeing the day-to-day operations of Championship International Wrestling.
Gary Wornchak, legal advisor to the Titan Sports and Entertainment Board of Directors, commented on the decision:
“While this is a sad day, it is the right move for the overall operations of CIW. We cannot have the COO getting into physical altercations with talent as it creates not only a legal vulnerability for CIW, but also a locker room morale issue. This change ensures that the company can move forward without distraction.”
Phil “Nitro” Monahan will also appear in person at the September 14th event alongside his son Landen to address the CIW fans, talent, and staff regarding his decision and the future of the Monahan family in CIW.
CIW thanks Phil “Nitro” Monahan for his years of leadership and looks forward to his continued contributions in his new advisory role.
